Question Types

Detail

Long Essay Questions (LEQs), Short Essay Questions (SEQs), Short Answer Questions (SAQs)

What each question type expects:

  • Long Essay Questions (LEQs) in Community Medicine typically span a full programme, a disease control strategy, or an epidemiological method. A strong LEQ answer covers definition, magnitude of the problem, risk factors or determinants, prevention and control measures, and the national programme or policy relevant to the topic.
  • Short Essay Questions (SEQs) focus on one component -- a specific study design, a disease surveillance method, a nutritional deficiency, or a component of a national programme.
  • Short Answer Questions (SAQs) test precise recall: immunisation schedule milestones, definitions of epidemiological terms, specific health indicators, or named components of a national health scheme.

Verify the exact mark split per question type by opening the paper in the GeckoMed app or viewing the year-specific page linked in the table above.

Paper strategy

How to Use These Papers

  1. 1.Build epidemiology and biostatistics first. These two sections underpin the rest of the subject. Epidemiology concepts -- incidence, prevalence, attack rate, odds ratio, relative risk, sensitivity, specificity -- appear at every level of the paper. Biostatistics requires understanding which test applies to which data type. Mastering both early makes the national programmes section much easier to contextualise.
  2. 2.Structure every LEQ with the five-part national programme frame. For any question on a communicable disease or national health programme -- tuberculosis, malaria, leprosy, AIDS, polio -- write magnitude, causative agent or transmission, prevention and control, national programme details, and current targets. This frame works for nearly every major LEQ in the subject.
  3. 3.Memorise the National Immunisation Schedule as a table. Immunisation schedule questions appear at SAQ and SEQ level consistently. The National Immunisation Schedule gives you the full schedule in one place. Know the age of each vaccine, the number of doses, and the route of administration.
  4. 4.Learn water quality standards as fixed numbers. Questions on water supply frequently test specific parameters -- turbidity limits, permissible coliform counts, chlorine residual levels, and pH range for safe water. These are short answers requiring exact figures, not explanations. One focused revision session on water quality numbers covers this permanently.
  5. 5.Treat nutrition as three separate sub-topics. Protein-energy malnutrition (PEM), micronutrient deficiency diseases (vitamin A, iodine, iron, vitamin D), and nutritional assessment methods each produce their own question types. Revise them separately and link them together under the nutritional surveillance framework.
  6. 6.Use PYQs to track which national programmes rotate at LEQ level. TNMGRMU Community Medicine LEQs tend to cycle through major national programmes across years. Scanning 2021 to 2025 papers shows which programme was asked most recently -- the ones not asked in the last two years are higher probability for your sitting.
  7. 7.Read SAQs from old papers as a definitions list. Community Medicine SAQs test precise definitions of terms used throughout the subject: herd immunity, notifiable disease, zoonosis, endemic, pandemic, primary prevention, secondary prevention, and so on. Compiling these into one list and reviewing it in the week before the exam is one of the most efficient things you can do for this paper.

FAQs about MBBS Question Paper Downloads

Where can I download TNMGRMU Community Medicine question papers from 2021 to 2025?

All TNMGRMU Community Medicine question papers from 2021 to 2025 are available on this page and in the GeckoMed app. Download them as PDF or view each paper online through the Web View links in the table above.

Is the TNMGRMU Community Medicine exam based on the NMC CBME format?

Yes. TNMGRMU follows the NMC CBME curriculum for all Phase 3 subjects including Community Medicine. The theory paper includes long essay questions, short essay questions, and short answer questions as per the NMC framework.

Which topics are most important for the TNMGRMU Community Medicine exam?

Based on analysis of TNMGRMU Community Medicine papers from 2021 to 2025, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, National Health Programmes (tuberculosis, malaria, HIV/AIDS), the National Immunisation Schedule, and Water Supply appear with high frequency. The GeckoMed app has a full topic-wise breakdown by year.

Are TNMGRMU Community Medicine papers different from RGUHS or KNRUHS papers?

The core syllabus follows the NMC CBME framework across all Indian medical universities, so topic overlap is substantial. However, TNMGRMU sets its own question paper independently, so the phrasing, question weighting, and emphasis can differ.
