Long Essay Questions test in-depth understanding of a disease or clinical scenario — typically covering definition, aetiology, pathophysiology, clinical features, investigations, and management in a single integrated answer. Short Essay Questions cover a focused aspect of a condition: a clinical presentation, a diagnostic approach, or a treatment protocol. Short Answer Questions test definitions, clinical signs, investigations, or brief mechanism descriptions.
General Medicine also has a separate clinical and viva examination conducted in the hospital setting. The clinical examination requires students to present a patient case, perform targeted clinical examination, and answer viva questions on the patient and related topics. This component is assessed independently from the theory paper.

Based on analysis of RGUHS General Medicine papers from 2021 to 2025. Frequency reflects observed question patterns; individual paper content may vary.
General Medicine is the most clinically comprehensive subject in Final Year. The paper spans every organ system, which means the question coverage is broad and the preparation load is significant. PYQs are the most reliable guide to how RGUHS examiners prioritise the syllabus.
GeckoMed offers a 4-day free trial with full access to all RGUHS General Medicine papers from 2025 to 2021. After the trial, an annual subscription gives continued access to the complete archive. Papers are available in the GeckoMed app on Android and iOS, with offline access supported.
GeckoMed carries RGUHS General Medicine papers for 2025, 2024, 2023, and 2021. This archive covers four examination sittings, which is sufficient to identify topic patterns and the question style used in RGUHS Final Year Medicine papers.
The RGUHS General Medicine theory paper follows the standard NMC CBME Final Year format: two Long Essay Questions (10 marks each), ten Short Essay Questions (5 marks each), and ten Short Answer Questions (3 marks each), totalling 100 marks in 3 hours. The clinical examination is assessed separately.
Start by reviewing the last three years of papers to identify the conditions and organ systems that RGUHS examines most frequently. Prioritise conditions that appear in both Long Essay and Short Essay formats, as these are the most important topics in the paper. After identifying your weak areas, revise those topics using notes, then attempt a full paper under timed conditions before your examination.
Yes. Each university sets its own General Medicine papers. RGUHS papers have their own question style, preferred conditions, and mark allocation pattern. Students at RGUHS-affiliated colleges should study the RGUHS archive rather than papers from KNRUHS or TNMGRMU, even though the NMC CBME syllabus is shared.
