MBBS Exam Question Papers (2025 to 2021)

These are official past university exam papers, not practice sets or predicted papers, covering all 14 paper-bearing MBBS subjects from 2025 back to 2021. This page focuses on understanding the exam itself: how the paper is structured, how to read it under time pressure on the day, and how to use genuine past papers to prepare for the real exam experience rather than just as a revision checklist. For the full year-by-year archive, see the MBBS Question Papers hub.

MBBS Exam Structure (National, NMC CBME)

Every MBBS university exam under the NMC Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum follows the same broad structure, regardless of subject or university:

Component

Theory (University Exam)

Typical Marks

60 to 100 marks

What It Tests

Long essays, short answer questions, applied questions, diagrams, MCQs

Component

Practical or Clinical Exam

Typical Marks

20 to 100 marks

What It Tests

Specimens, instruments, lab interpretation, case presentation, clinical examination

Component

Viva Voce

Typical Marks

10 to 20 marks

What It Tests

Definitions, diagram identification, applied and clinical correlations

Component

Internal Assessment

Typical Marks

Recorded separately by college

What It Tests

Class tests, attendance, practical records

Most Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3 Part 1 subjects follow a two-theory-paper structure of 100 marks each plus a 100-mark practical. Forensic Medicine is the one exception, with a single theory paper. Final Year subjects are assessed through theory and clinical components under the university's current examination framework.

How to Read an Exam Question Paper Under Time Pressure

Genuine exam papers, not just their content, teach you something practice questions alone cannot: how the paper is laid out and how much time you realistically have per section.

  1. Read the full paper before writing anything. Spend the first three to five minutes reading every question, not just the first one. This prevents spending too long on an early question at the expense of a later one you know better.
  2. Allocate time by marks, not by comfort. A 10-mark question deserves roughly twice the time of a 5-mark question, even if you feel more confident about the shorter one.
  3. Attempt questions in order of confidence, not paper order. Answer what you know well first to secure marks early, then return to harder questions with remaining time.
  4. Leave space for diagrams. Examiners expect labelled diagrams in many long-answer questions. Sketch the diagram outline before writing the surrounding text so you don't run out of space.
  5. Reserve the final five minutes to review, not to start a new answer. Check that every question has been attempted and that diagrams are labelled, rather than starting a fresh long answer with too little time left.

Why Genuine Past Papers Matter

Working through actual past exam papers, rather than only practice questions written to resemble them, shows you the real level of detail examiners expect, the actual phrasing style used, and the genuine mix of question types on a single paper. For a topic-wise breakdown of what appears most often across these papers, see the MBBS Question Bank.
