MBBS Viva Questions with Model Answers

Viva exams are where most MBBS students lose marks they have earned in the written paper. The examiner controls the direction, the time is short, and the standard answer-structure skills that work in written papers often fail under direct questioning. GeckoMed's viva library covers subject-wise and topic-wise questions with model answers structured to match what MBBS examiners in India actually look for. Questions are compiled from viva reports and PYQ patterns across all seven GeckoMed universities.

What Each Viva Page Covers

Every GeckoMed viva page follows the same structure, aligned to how MBBS viva exams are conducted across Indian universities:

Question categories — Basic Concepts, Applied Questions, Clinical Scenarios, Practical Identification, and Recently Asked. Students can filter to their weakest category.

Model answers — 2 to 4 sentence answers written to match the expected depth at MBBS level, neither too brief nor textbook-length. Each answer can be toggled open so the question is visible first for self-testing.

University tags — Where questions are known to have been asked at specific universities (RGUHS, KNRUHS, TNMGRMU, NTRUHS, WBUHS, KUHS, RUHS), they carry a tag showing which university and which year.

Most repeated questions strip — The top 10 most frequently asked questions in that subject are highlighted separately as a fast-track revision block.

Viva day tips — Subject-specific practical advice: how to handle an unknown question, how to answer mechanism questions, how to structure a clinical scenario answer.

How to Prepare for MBBS Viva Exams

Understand the format before you revise. MBBS viva exams in India typically run 10 to 15 minutes per student for internal assessments and 15 to 20 minutes for university final exams. Practical viva exams include specimen and slide identification alongside theory questions. Knowing the format helps you allocate revision time correctly.

Revise in question-answer format, not reading format. Reading notes passively does not prepare you for being asked a direct question under time pressure. The GeckoMed viva library is structured so you can read a question, attempt an answer mentally or aloud, then reveal the model answer for comparison.

Prioritise applied and clinical scenario questions. Under the NMC CBME framework, examiners are increasingly expected to test applied knowledge rather than pure recall. Applied and scenario questions in the GeckoMed viva library are marked separately so you can focus on this category in your final revision week.

Use university tags to target your specific exam. Viva questions vary by university. Questions tagged RGUHS 2024 or KNRUHS 2023 tell you exactly what examiners at your university have asked recently — a faster and more targeted approach than generic viva guides.

MBBS Practical Exam Preparation

Viva exams are one half of the practical assessment. The other half is the actual practical — specimen identification, histology slides, and procedure-based questions. GeckoMed's Practical Exam Prep section covers both components.

Frequently Asked Questions

What subjects are covered in the GeckoMed viva library?

The current library covers Anatomy (including osteology), Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pathology, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Additional subject pages are added on an ongoing basis.

Are these questions from actual MBBS viva exams in India?

Questions are compiled from viva reports, university PYQ patterns, and verified against recurring topics across all seven GeckoMed universities. University tags show which questions have been confirmed as asked at specific universities in specific years.

How are the model answers structured?

Answers are 2 to 4 sentences, written to match the depth expected at MBBS level. They are not textbook paragraphs — they are answers in the format an examiner would find satisfactory under the time constraints of a real viva.

Can I use the viva library to prepare for internal assessments as well as university exams?

Yes. The question set covers both internal assessment viva questions (which tend to be more basic and topic-specific) and university practical exam viva questions (which include applied and clinical scenarios). The category filter on each page helps you direct your preparation accordingly.

How is the GeckoMed viva library different from a standard question bank?

A standard question bank lists questions without telling you how to answer them or how frequently they have been asked. GeckoMed viva pages include model answers, university frequency tags, and a most-repeated questions strip — so you spend your revision time on what actually comes up, not an exhaustive list.

Is the viva library available offline?

Yes. All viva content is available offline in the GeckoMed app on both Android and iOS.
