Question Types

Detail

Long Essay Questions (LEQs), Short Essay Questions (SEQs), Short Answer Questions (SAQs)

What each question type expects:

  • Long Essay Questions (LEQs) typically ask for classification of a drug group, mechanism of action of a representative drug, pharmacokinetics, adverse effects, drug interactions, and clinical uses. A well-organised answer with a classification table at the start scores well.
  • Short Essay Questions (SEQs) focus on a single drug or drug class -- mechanism, uses, and adverse effects are the core of most SEQ answers.
  • Short Answer Questions (SAQs) test rapid recall: drug of choice (DOC) for named conditions, named adverse effects, brief mechanisms, or single-drug comparisons.

Verify the exact mark split per question type by opening the paper in the GeckoMed app or viewing the year-specific page linked in the table above.

How to Study TNMGRMU Pharmacology With PYQs

These tips are written specifically for the TNMGRMU exam pattern and the question types that appear most often across recent years.

  • Open every LEQ answer with a classification table. Pharmacology LEQs at TNMGRMU almost always begin with "classify" or "enumerate." Writing a clean, structured classification at the top of your answer signals command of the topic before you write a single line of explanation. Memorise the major drug class hierarchies early.
  • Learn mechanisms with a cause-and-effect sentence. For every drug, practise summarising its mechanism in one clear sentence: what it binds, what it blocks or activates, and what that produces. Examiners reward precision here. Pharmacology mnemonics can help you lock in receptor names and effects.
  • Build a DOC master list from PYQs. Drug of choice questions recur heavily in SAQs and as sub-parts of SEQs. As you scan PYQs from 2021 to 2025, pull every DOC question into a single revision list. Fifteen to twenty conditions cover most of what TNMGRMU asks.
  • Revise antimicrobials as a block. Antibiotics, antitubercular agents, antifungals, and antiparasitic drugs together form a large chunk of the paper across all question types. Use the Antibiotic Classification Chart to map the whole group visually before drilling individual agents.
  • Know the adverse effect profile of every major drug class. Adverse drug reactions appear in SAQs as standalone questions and as sub-parts of LEQs. Revising characteristic toxicity signatures (ototoxicity, nephrotoxicity, QT prolongation, and so on) across drug classes is time-efficient and high-yield.
  • Use classification charts for cardiovascular and metabolic drugs. Antihypertensives and antidiabetic drugs are complex enough to deserve their own revision session each. The Antihypertensive Chart and Antidiabetic Drugs Chart organise these groups at a glance.
  • Sit one full 3-hour mock exam under timed conditions. Pharmacology questions require you to recall classification, mechanism, uses, and adverse effects in sequence. Practising this under time pressure at least once before your university exam shows you where your answers are too long and where you are blanking on detail.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I download TNMGRMU Pharmacology question papers from 2021 to 2025?

All TNMGRMU Pharmacology question papers from 2021 to 2025 are available on this page and in the GeckoMed app. Download them as PDF or view each paper online through the Web View links in the table above.

Is the TNMGRMU Pharmacology exam based on the NMC CBME format?

Yes. TNMGRMU follows the NMC CBME curriculum for all Phase 2 subjects including Pharmacology. The theory paper includes long essay questions, short essay questions, and short answer questions as per the NMC framework.

Which topics are most important for the TNMGRMU Pharmacology exam?

Based on analysis of TNMGRMU Pharmacology papers from 2021 to 2025, General Pharmacology, Autonomic Nervous System drugs, Antimicrobials, Antihypertensives, NSAIDs, and Antitubercular drugs appear with high frequency. The GeckoMed app has a full topic-wise breakdown by year.

Are TNMGRMU Pharmacology papers different from RGUHS or KNRUHS papers?

The core syllabus follows the NMC CBME framework across all Indian medical universities, so topic overlap is substantial. However, TNMGRMU sets its own question paper independently, so the phrasing, question weighting, and emphasis can differ. Practising TNMGRMU-specific papers gives you the most relevant preparation for your university exam.
