The clinical component includes case presentations and operative theatre exposure. Visit the General Surgery hub for the complete syllabus, and Best Surgery Book for MBBS for book recommendations.

Obstetrics and Gynaecology Syllabus

Obstetrics and Gynaecology covers antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, along with gynaecological conditions and reproductive health. The clinical component includes labour ward and outpatient exposure. See the Obstetrics and Gynaecology hub for full coverage, and OBG Viva Questions and Answers for viva preparation.

Exam Pattern — MBBS Final Year

Final Year (Phase 3 Part 2) subjects are assessed through university theory papers, a clinical/practical examination, and viva voce for each of General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Paediatrics.

Final Year assessment in India is currently in transition under the National Exit Test (NExT) framework introduced by the NMC, which is intended to also serve as the licensing exam for MBBS graduates. Implementation timelines for NExT have shifted more than once, so the exact marks distribution and paper structure for Final Year should be confirmed against the current KNRUHS and NMC circulars for your batch, rather than assumed to match the fixed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Part 1 Year pattern.

To pass, a candidate is generally required to secure a minimum percentage separately in theory and in clinical/practical components, along with a minimum aggregate, as prescribed by NMC regulations. Exact thresholds can vary by batch and should be confirmed with your college.

For subject-wise question paper patterns and previous years' papers, see the Final Year Question Papers section below.

Internal Assessment

Internal assessment (IA) is conducted continuously through the academic year by the college or department, covering theory and clinical performance, attendance, and participation in activities such as case presentations and clinical postings. NMC regulations require a minimum of three internal assessments per topic through the year, along with minimum attendance thresholds to be eligible to sit university examinations. Internal marks are recorded but are not added into the final summative university exam score.

Final Year Question Papers

Practising previous year papers is one of the most effective ways to prepare for KNRUHS Final Year exams:

For important questions, see KNRUHS General Medicine Important Questions and KNRUHS General Surgery Important Questions. For a national view, see MBBS Final Year Question Papers and MBBS Surgery Question Papers.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the KNRUHS Final Year MBBS syllabus decided?

KNRUHS follows the NMC CBME curriculum, which is set nationally and applies to all MBBS colleges affiliated with KNRUHS.

Is the Final Year exam pattern the same as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Year?

Not necessarily. Final Year assessment is currently transitioning under the NMC's National Exit Test (NExT) framework, which also serves as the licensing exam. Students should confirm the exact current structure with KNRUHS and NMC circulars for their batch rather than assume it matches earlier years.

Is internal assessment important for KNRUHS Final Year students?

Yes. A minimum attendance and internal assessment record is required to be eligible to sit the university examinations, in addition to passing the theory and clinical components.

What is the passing criteria for KNRUHS Final Year subjects?

NMC regulations require a minimum percentage separately in theory and clinical/practical components, along with a minimum aggregate. Students should confirm the exact current thresholds with their college, as these are set at the national level and applied locally, and are also subject to change as NExT rolls out.
